They also have a few collections of craft books such as step-by-step of how to make clay sweets (should be more difficult than Decotti) or how to make decoden with bling-bling rhinestones or with cute clay decorations.

I’m not good at craft work or fancy work because I’m kind of clumsy with my fingers, and first off, I have no time to learn them now. But if I have more free time in the future, I’d love to try from sewing machine to make modified clothing of my own as well as accessories and other small items to make my life more kawaii!

Not until I went to the event that was taken place at the corner of ABC craft, did I know this store. At that time, I was obsessed with browsing small deco parts and many of tiny cute little things that were sold there. I’ve been away from such craft shop in my life, all because of my clumsiness and harsh experiences from sewing classes at school days. However, since my first Decotti experience opened my mind, I started to challenge crafting little by little. When I tried my first decoden (decoration over cell phone), I could make it in a satisfactory level, which made me more interested in buying a little bit of deco parts.

The other day, I bought some rhinestones and clay sweets for the decoration using the filler left over from Decotti. I made my original deco bottle as a sugar container! (The post with my video will be coming soon!)

If you are looking for small parts for your crafting in Tokyo, Yuzawaya and Okadaya are other options, not to mention Tokyu Hands and LOFT. If you are just looking for craft books, you can check out these stores but you can have a lot more books at big-scaled book stores such as Kinokuniya, Junkudo, Maruzen or Sanseido.

Enjoy your craft works! :)

Professional decoden master?

author Posted by: kirin on date Jul 4th, 2009 | filed Filed under: rambling, something weird..., what's new?

decoden school1 Professional decoden master?

Decoden is not something very special these days in Japan and there are actually professional deco designers who offer beautiful decoden original design and delicate artworks. Considering this, there’s no question next there comes decoden school where students are educated and trained to be professional deco artists. And it’s very natural there comes a new certification for professional bling artist.

I have this feeling that Japanese people like to learn things. Especially it is regarded very important to be certified or qualified at any job category. For example it’s good that I remain high scored at TOEIC test to prove that I have good communication skills in English, if I want to get a job needing English ability. (I used to do that when I was engaged in export job right after graduation from university.) This is easy sample for you to imagine. But how about certifications as follows? I wonder if we really need them for jobs. (Kentei means certification.)

-Manga (Anime) Kentei
-Home Cooking Kentei
-Urutoraman Kentei
-Home Appliances Adviser Kentei
-Happy Retirement Kentei
-Maid Kentei
-Manner Kentei
and so on…(*I just gave them English names here for descriptive purposes and this doesn’t mean they are official English names.)

These look fun but do they deserve the money and effort we spend in exchange? Well I’m getting off the track but I am someone who don’t really like everyone insanely being involved in qualifications to gain jobs. Such being the case, career colleges or vocational schools are sometimes only focusing on how to let their students gain qualifications for sure rather than practical techniques or skills, and people do spend much time and money for them. To me this seems upside down…:S What do you think?

BTW, another surprise was it that my hot Yoga studio started decoden 1-day lesson or something. Why Yoga went deco? No matter what it is behind anyway, decoden is so open and easy access for anyone in Japan.

How the things in your country? Do people get crazy about certifications and qualifications to get jobs as well? Would you like to try Manga or Anime Kentei, if you like Japanese anime? How about Maid Kentei if you like maid or lolita? For those who like decorations, decoden master may sound a compelling job?

My experience of making decoden, or decoration over cell phone!

author Posted by: kirin on date Jun 21st, 2009 | filed Filed under: fashion, kawaii review, my kawaii

Basically I’m not good at crafting but since my first experience of making DECOTTI, I kinda find it fun to craft something by myself. Yet, I cannot make something from scratch. I have to rely on kits or easy tool to make something cute by myself. :P

So what’s new this time? It’s my first experience of decoden! As I filmed myself making decoden, you’ll see this is not mori style as well-known as what decoden is like. I use my cell phone as a camera, too, and so too much overloaded decorations just unable it to be used as a camera. That’s why I chose this water-proof sticker type of decoration with Japanese Makie art pattern, combination of rhinestones so that my decoden won’t look too simple.

Please watch the video, see how I made it, and let me know what you think. :)

I’m quite satisfied with the outcome, nevertheless I’m kinda clumsy at things like this requring skills to pick up small pieces… Also, as a result, simple deco was OK to me. I really liked it. :)
