Anyone wanna cosplay with school uniform?

author Posted by: kirin on date Nov 29th, 2008 | filed Filed under: Fashion, My Kawaii, What's New?

I have updated Tokyo Kawaii TV page, about school uniform fashion so please check that out.
I think that’s fun especially if you are interested in cutting-edge Tokyo fashion!
I am not a teenager nor 20-something any more, but I really love to watch the show and am happy to share it with my blog readers.

I decided to announce here to my blog readers whenever I write a new article in any pages to this blog, from this time on. That’s because updating blog post (home) is known by RSS, while updating a new article in my “page” section (that is just under the title bar) is not known. This also led me not to update the contents of the pages so often. Oops, that sounds like an excuse…

In addition to that, I have another reason that I wanna exchange opinions, comments, or conversations between my blog readers thru my posts. But articles under pages do not allow that function. So I have no idea how my post was read, thought, reacted, and so on.

So, back to the school uniform fashion, I personally like that! I’m not at the age of wearing school uniform but I miss it. Maybe I miss that era…

Instant Onsen at home!

bath2 225x300 Instant Onsen at home!

bath1 225x300 Instant Onsen at home!

Bathing is sort of pastime to me at the end of a day. Especially using instant Onsen powder or aroma oil makes me feel so relaxed.

Most of Japanese people take a bath every night, which is so different from that people from most of other countries take a shower in the morning. Also, bathroom is so different, as we make the bathtub full of hot water as in the photo and when we are inside it, the hot water stays around the shoulder hight. We wash our body outside the tub, hence it is always that bathroom consists of 2 areas; tub & wash space. Half & half.

The hot water is to be shared with all the family members, and there are many housewifes who re-use the hot water for washing laundry next morning. (The hot water is tepid water by that time) I am one of those  Do you wonder if I scoop up small amount of water and repeat that 10-20 times? No! The washing machine has a pump from the beginning (because reuse of the bath water is so common) and when I choose the reuse course and sink the hose into the bathtub and turn the switch on, the washing machine starts pumping. I just wait until it lets me know when finished.

These days I sometimes sleep in a bathtub because it’s so comfortable and I’m too tired. Bathing takes time and sometimes tiresome but it’s inextricable part of life to me. When I skip this bathing at night before sleep, I sometimes feel cold or my brain keeps working even after I get into the bed. But I will fall asleep in a second, very relaxed and warmed with little bit fatigue from bathing just like after doing some sports.

BTW, the water is colored because of the Onsen powder  What I like about it is that there are so many kinds of Onsen powder released from many brands and companies. The scent, color, modeled onsen type is all different, and it gives me another reason that I don’t wanna skip bathing!

Am I too addicted to bathing? Won’t you think you would be like me if you can enjoy this kind of bathing every night?

Another Nabe pattern

I am impressed to have received some comments for Nabe Ryori from my blog readers! I wonder if I could be eager to challenge unfamiliar cuisine from searching the special ingredients at unfamiliar market. I wonder if I would go for it from scratch just like Walter. I respect their energy and passion that they have towards cooking!

Well, I keep taking photos and think of writing a new post until finally today I found a week has already been passing since my previous post. But here it is again, salt-based Chanko Nabe that I had for dinner.

The ingredients in the photo are too much for 2 of us, of course. I just used half or 1/3 of each packaged vegetables. The purpose of this post is to share Ojiya, or rice gruel that I fixed after the soup is left. This is soooo good! Mochi, as in last post or Udon noodle is also good for each, but Ojiya, I think is my favorite!

It’s easy. Just put steamed rice into the pot where all vegetables and meat or fish are taken (eaten) and only the soup is left. Simmer the rice to make congee with beaten egg. That’s it! Keep stirring especially after adding beaten egg so that it mixes well with rice. :)

For your reference, I put sequence of photos while the Ojiya gets ready.

Please do try this!
Finally let me add that the rice swells, absorbing the soup. So don’t put too much rice into the pot!

Nabe Ryori (hot-pot cuisine in Japanese style)

author Posted by: kirin on date Nov 14th, 2008 | filed Filed under: Daily Life

cooking nabe looking 300x180 Nabe Ryori (hot pot cuisine in Japanese style) Hot-pot cuisine in Japanese style is called Nabe Ryori in Japanese. It’s good for autumn – winter season, and these days I frequently cook it for dinner.

Well it’s been quite a while since I posted my previous article, but I have no idea how many times I had Nabe for dinner. Wonder if I get bored? No! Not at all! Why?

Let me tell you that later, also, I will update how to cook Nabe Ryori in my blog page named “Japanese Foods” just as located below the blog top title.

nabe soup1 180x300 Nabe Ryori (hot pot cuisine in Japanese style) In fact there are so many kinds of Nabe soup sold in supermarkets in Japan. They are usually prefixed soup that you can use for boiling vegetable & meat/fish. Sometimes you may need some water to dilute the concentrated soup. Of course you can fix the soup at home, but as for me, I’d rather pay for 200-300 yen (about US$2-3) to buy the soup. (Usually the soup is for 3-4 people, but I use it up, sharing with 2, but still, this price is not high.)

Nabe soup is featured basically with either of the followings.

-miso (soybean paste) based
-soy sauce based
-salt based
-soy milk based
-Korean kimchi based
-curry based
and so on…

You can also choose which kinds of veges, meat or fish to add. It’s not only that. After eating up all these ingredients, you can choose which one you add, rice, mochi (rice cake), or udon noodle, or sometimes ramen also tastes great!

So this day I chose mochi (rice cake) for “after treat” :) It’s much easier to heat mochi before you put them into the pot for simmering.

Please check out related post at “Japanese Foods” page where I will add more photos! :)

funny Edamame toy

edamame toy 400 300x197 funny Edamame toy

Disclaimer: photo quoted from StrapyaNext @Rakuten

Rakuten is the biggest & most popular online shopping mall in Japan. I often purchase the goods for my dog, electric appliances, books at some stores that belong to Rakuten.

So today when I was looking for a toothpaste & tooth care item for my dog, I happened to find this funny looking Edamame toy.

Just by looking I thought this toy might be related to Puchimoe because the concept just seemed similar.

And yes, I was right!

This kind of toy looks funny and a little bit weird to me.
I’m not a kind of person who kills time by playing with this sort of gadget, but it’s fun enough to introduce here at my blog :)

When we eat Edamame we press the Edamame bag to put out the beans.
This toy is just the same but it looks like beans never drop off, so we have to keep pressing the bag until we get bored. (This is the point of the toy. There should be some good feeling with that.) Also it’s kinda cute that beans have the 12 types of “face” which you will never know which one of them to be delivered when you order.

They have many similar products.
