How can enyone imagine this hip-hop looking guy sings ENKA in Japanese? His name is Jero. According to his official site, he’s from the U.S and he came to Japan in 2003 to be an Enka singer.
When I fist saw this CD jacket, I had no doubt and thought that he’d be a new hip-hop singer or something that I might wanna check out later.
So I found my eyes wide open when I saw some videos of his singing Enka in Japanese.
Here’s one sample from Youtube. The title of the song is Umiyuki (海雪).
His grandma is Japanese and wow, his Japanese singing is so awesome and just by listening it, anyone would never believe he’s American…
Actually, Enka is not popular among young people.
That sort of music is mostly supported by elder people over the age of 50 or something.
But Jero may change the world. I can see young people who had never paid any attention to Enka songs now cannot help checking out this black Enka singer. He’s amazing!!
