Duck lips are the way to be kawaii?

author Posted by: kirin on date Aug 29th, 2010 | filed Filed under: Health & Beauty

Duck lips are called “Ahirukuchi” or “Ahiruguchi” in Japanese. (ahiru= duck, kuchi= mouth, guchi is to make kuchi pronounced easier when it’s combined with other words.) Making duck lips is considered kawaii in Japan now, especially among young Japanese girls. I didn’t know Ahiruguchi is even popular as “duck lips” outside Japan!!

I don’t know if the definition of Japanese duck lips is the same as English one, but in Japan “Ahiruguchi” is defined as upcurved lips with thin upper lip.

Beauty essence designed for cute lips was released lately. It helps girls make cute lips, regardless of duck lips. ^ ^; It can be used as a replacement of lip gloss, according to the reviews of the users. My problem is that I don’t like to put on lipstick unless it’s health-conscious product. No matter how beautiful the color is, I just don’t feel like applying it on my lips once I see what’s inside.

People say it’s very small amount of “something artificial” such as fragrance or chemicals inside the beauty product that even affects nothing to human body. I know that, but I feel so bad when I take it into my body every time I drink or eat something. While at the same time I don’t mind eating fast food or pre-cooked food. You see how contradicting I am. haha! ^ ^;

Speaking of cosmetics, I somehow cannot help thinking this way. Because of this, I often prefer wearing lip balm or lipstick from the natural cosmetics brand I’ve been using since I was 21, instead of general lip gloss or lipstick. But I may want to check out the lip care essence instead of using lip gloss. :p Oh, I mean, it’s not for making duck lips myself. lol I personally think duck lips are cute, but it’s strange if everyone follows the same pattern of facial expression. Someday people will get bored with it. What do you think?

This is the first-ever guest post on this blog. :D
Today I’m pleased to share the post dedicated by Apple. It started from my casual tweet the other day, tweeting “I feel better in the morning when I go to bed before 11pm.” and Apple kindly responded me with tips which sounded very interesting to me. I found it’s great if I could share her knowledge with my readers, which is why I asked her if she was interested in writing a guest post to Tokyo Kawaii, etc. and she did such a awesome work for all of us!! Please visit her blog or follow her on twitter if you find it interesting and useful. Thank You so much Apple, and it’ll be nice if you could join replying to comments from my readers.

Carrot Apple juice strongly recommended by a Japanese doctor

carrot and apple1 Carrot Apple juice strongly recommended by a Japanese doctor

First off, I have not lost interest in short sleep yet. Since I failed my first experiment that I tried to change my sleeping hours from 8 hours to 6-3 hours, I have started to have a glass of fresh juice from carrot and apple with a few drops of squeeze of a lemon every morning instead of egg, sausage and bread. I remembered that I read one of Dr. Ishihara’s books a few years ago when I was searching how we can improve immunity to fight against cancer cell. At that time I reached his book in terms of prevention of cancer, but I remembered he recommended the juice as an easy way to fast, which eventually brings in lose-weight. As I like eating well, I wanted to start from something easy but still good for health.

Give it a try! Ganbanyoku in Japan.

author Posted by: kirin on date May 24th, 2010 | filed Filed under: Health & Beauty

I had Ganbanyoku(岩盤浴), or hot stone sauna after a long interval. I was actually quite surprised how much my skin condition improved without any face lotion or serum put on, after it. I must have forgotten all these things because of long absence from my last Ganbanyoku experience. :(

For those who are not familiar with Ganbanyoku, watch this video first. I wish I could take my video, but they will never allow me to.
(I use this video not to intend to promote this salon, but only to give readers the image of Ganbanyoku.)

In this video, people do yoga and stretch on the hot stones, but usually when we say Ganbanyoku, it’s only that people lie down on the hot stones to relax and sweat. This salon combines Ganbanyoku and these exercises to lead the upmost outcome, and it’s also common at any Ganbanyoku salons these days. My Ganbanyoku salon that I went the other day also has a yoga program, and I was able to observe a yoga lesson while I was lying down on the Ganban hot stone plate. (I could sneakily pose as they do, but no, that’s embarrassing…) ^ ^;

How is Zogan face massage?

author Posted by: kirin on date May 20th, 2010 | filed Filed under: Health & Beauty

I had a request from one of my blog readers that she wants me to write about Zogan massage that was invented by Yukuko Tanaka.

First off, Zogan is from 造顔 (making face) and I think it’s only the word she made. I think this massage is very comfortable especially when I’m tired from work.
Sometimes when my work is hard and stressful, I feel my face is so solid that I even find it hard to smile! Then I usually find myself massaging my face before I know, unconsciously.

Anyhow watch this video.

note
* She recommends massage cream that contains less oil.
* Use 3 fingers (forefinger, mid finger, and annular finger) of each hand to massage the face with enough pressure.
* Use not only fingertips but also entire fingers.
* Each step needs 3 strokes.
* Do not massage so hard as to leave pains.
* When you find your fingers go into the skin, that means your face is swollen.
* Use only 1 finger around the eyes.
* “Do not touch the eyeballs, the skin around eyes is very sensitive.” She warns. I think this means “eyelids” instead of “eyeballs”. (Who wants to touch the eyeballs of her own?)
* 5 strokes around nostril to get rid of dirt.

So how is it, honestly? According to the opinions left at “@cosme“, my favorite cosmetics SNS, there are certain number of people who complain that the laugh line around mouth went deeper after continuous Zogan massage. That’s because this massage reduces extra swelling or fat from face. As a result, the face becomes skinny (which is good) and wrinkles look deeper (unfortunately), and the total image of the face looks even old. How ironic is that?! But I personally like to massage my face when I’m tired from work. Zogan massage is one of the ways I can do to myself then. What do you think? Do you know any useful ways to keep you look good?
