It’s at the North exit of JR Nakano station, and at the end of Sun Mall shopping arcade. I personally don’t like such a narrow place, but there are many interesting shops. If you like Japanese snacks, “okashi no machioka” is a good place to buy them with discount all the time. I have one of their branch stores in my station, but I don’t eat snacks that often, and so I never make the best use of the store. Haha!

There is a Tofu shop. They carry Tofu, soy milk and some Tofu related snacks and etc. You may find it interesting.

But I don’t like Tofu so much, so…I just passed there. :p

A fabric shop seems nice. I will check it out when I have a chance to remodel used clothing or something. I’m afraid I don’t think I can make something new from scratch when it comes to sewing. >_<

Oh, here’s the Nakano Broadway mascot, Pipi. Japanese people like to prepare a mascot character for anything. ^ ^;;

I noticed there are so many shops named Mandarake. But each one is special at one specific item. For example, one is specialized for figures and dolls, the other one is for plastic models, then the next one is for cosplay outfits, and also there is the one for manga and books…you know, it’s just like that. There is a place where you can bring your old toys or books and have them purchased by Mandarake. But when I was trying to take that picture, I was asked if I needed to be served by the staff. Oh no, I had nothing to sell. ^ ^;;

Strange T-shirts. Of course, a big sign of “No photo”. ^ ^;; I only want to share with TKE readers what we have in Tokyo~~. (T_T) The shop carried more fun/strange T-shirts. But the good thing about the store is that they never mistake Japanese printed on the T-shirts. lol I had to laugh at the Japanese-printed T-shirts I see people wearing abroad because the Japanese printed there is so strange and just funny! Sometimes it just doesn’t make sense at all. I know you see the similar thing to find us wearing a T-shirt with strange English printed. ^ ^;;

This is a Mandarake book store. Men are busy reading manga there. ^ ^;;

I think my husband and I enjoyed these retro toys and vintage toys. There are some shops and Mandarake that carries old dolls, toys, signs and etc. which are priced so high because they are considered vintage and limited. But of course, “No photo” again…

I was talking with my husband that we could have kept all the toys, plamodel (plastic models) and the gamewatch that played when we were kids. We were excited to find the toys that we played when we were little.

Nakano Broadway and Mandarake shops will be interesting especially to foreign tourists visiting Tokyo. As for me, one time is enough, but I may go back there if I find some things from my parents house that I feel like selling to Mandarake. lol

I noticed I have not completed a post about Yamashiroya since I made a link to the Kawaii Shop page. Yamashiroya is like Kiddyland and they always carry fun toys and popular character goods such as One Piece.

Kaomoji goods are so popular over here. I see they are cute enough to be treated as a sort of character.

While Kiddyland deals with popular characters such as Rilakkuma, Snoopy and etc., Yamashiroya seems to have game and anime characters. Whichever it is, it’s nice as long as it is cute. I didn’t recognize these cats, but later I learned they are from the very famous Japanese game titled Monster Hunter and the name of the cat (I don’t know which colored one) is “Airu”. Video game characters can be as cute as this!

Speaking of video game, everyone knows Mario right? I think they’re so cute even though they are enemies when I play Mario. ^ ^

Oh, I found a panda version this time!

You don’t know what I’m talking about? Some time ago I found the ones of cat and dog versions. Now panda version is available! How cute!!

It’s Hello Kitty’s solar-powered cellphone charger. There were Rilakkuma, Winnie the Pooh, and Stitch as well. Maybe these cute characters will decrease the fear of emergency…I hope. I could get one to prepare for another earthquake in the future…? (I wish to live in a country that is free from earthquake!>_<)

Doraemon is still popular…He is like a forever hero to kids.

But the most popular hero will be Anpanman.

I noticed I was on the kid’s floor when I found these tiny socks for boys. I know how boys can be crazy about trains. It’s cute their feet always look like trains with these socks on. lol

What a surprise! I found some Creamy Mami goods!

I also found some Blythe goods as well as Blythe dolls and her wigs and accessories.

There were many popular anime characters but above all, One Piece was most outstanding. So many kind of kawaii iphone cases with One Piece characters!

Before I left, I found some bizarre business card cases. They are weird rather than kawaii… I wonder who wants this…(*_*)

When I asked one of the shop workers if I can take pictures, he said it’s no problem!!!! Yay! This is not common in Japan. Most of the time I am asked not to take photos. ^ ^ How do you like Yamashiroya?

Shimamura has several branch stores but they are not located in a big train station such as Shinjuku or Shibuya. Majority of them are in the city part of Tokyo instead of 23 wards. There are some located in the 23 wards such as Edogawa-ku, Adachi-ku, or Ohta-ku but I normally don’t travel these areas for shopping.

It was on the 2nd floor of a super market.

This atmosphere is similar to Ito Yokado or maybe close to some clothing stores in Nippori.

Lady’s shoes were very cheap. They had big size like 4L and 5L, which will be 26cm or so and they were under 1500yen.

Hello Kitty…(Don’t worry this is not an imitation. Imitation is strictly banned in Japan, and thus such reasonable place also deals with genuine one.)

I could become an instant anime fan every time I find something like this. XD Are you familiar with Gegege no Kitaro? It’s only 790yen! Next time I need T-shirt, I could check out this place.

Fitting rooms are also available so you can try before you decide to buy the clothes.

I’ve so far recognized Shimamura as a teen’s clothing store and also because of its location, I really didn’t have a chance to visit there until this time. Now I see they have reasonable casual clothing for both men and women, as well as kids, and their taste is not always lame. In other words, I could also say I have a feeling I can make a lucky find at a quite reasonable price there as long as I want something casual. It’s also nice the shop carries big size, whether it’s shoes or T-shirts, which must be good news for those who do not fit in Japanese size.

This shop is very close to the station. You can head for Waseda exit and find the blue building with the letter “BIG BOX” on. The Shimamura store is on the other side of BIG BOX building. You will easily miss it unless you pay attention to the small sign as in the first picture.
