If you like to do some craft works, ABC craft is one of the places for you to get things such as accessory chains and connecting parts, deco parts (for decoden etc.), rhinestones, clay sweets, knitting yarm and tools, and more. They also have a few collections of craft books such as step-by-step of how to make clay sweets (should be more difficult than Decotti) or how to make decoden with bling-bling rhinestones or with cute clay decorations. |
I’m not good at craft work or fancy work because I’m kind of clumsy with my fingers, and first off, I have no time to learn them now. But if I have more free time in the future, I’d love to try from sewing machine to make modified clothing of my own as well as accessories and other small items to make my life more kawaii!
Not until I went to the event that was taken place at the corner of ABC craft, did I know this store. At that time, I was obsessed with browsing small deco parts and many of tiny cute little things that were sold there. I’ve been away from such craft shop in my life, all because of my clumsiness and harsh experiences from sewing classes at school days. However, since my first Decotti experience opened my mind, I started to challenge crafting little by little. When I tried my first decoden (decoration over cell phone), I could make it in a satisfactory level, which made me more interested in buying a little bit of deco parts.
The other day, I bought some rhinestones and clay sweets for the decoration using the filler left over from Decotti. I made my original deco bottle as a sugar container! (The post with my video will be coming soon!)
If you are looking for small parts for your crafting in Tokyo, Yuzawaya and Okadaya are other options, not to mention Tokyu Hands and LOFT. If you are just looking for craft books, you can check out these stores but you can have a lot more books at big-scaled book stores such as Kinokuniya, Junkudo, Maruzen or Sanseido.
Enjoy your craft works!

Actually, I bumped into your blog when I was looking for Decotti!
Most of my "creations" are inspired by this blog!

I remember going to ABC Craft many, many times with a friend of mine, but we only ever looked. I've not been so good at crafts either, so I never really had the confidence to just try something out. I think I would now though, as I've started crocheting and I've done a fair bit of scrapbooking too… Like you said before – wouldn't it be wonderful if we had time to try *everything*!

え~、ほんとうに?^ ^; お恥ずかしいですわ。。。I am actually very beginner to crafting, and I am very clumsy, but wow, I am so surprised to hear that! (#^_^#) In fact, however, it's very strange I feel like doing more and more since my first experience of Decotti. Before that, I never paid any attention to crafting because I knew I was anyway very bad at finger works and small things. The problem is I am too busy to find time for that now, and so I thought I could save this for my 60s or something when I have more free time, but on second thoughts, my eyes cannot see small things well then! (LOL)

I learned from the website of ABC that they had stores in Osaka, too. (Tennouji is where my grandma lives!)
I think it's cool of you to start making something by yourself. Such experience should be a plus to your internship!

Oh wow! Brilliant! Thank you so much! I've been looking for more options than Tokyu Hands and LoFT (much as I love Tokyu Hands), so I'll definitely give ABC a try next time I'm in Japan!

Sorry for the late reply, I'm very busy at work!
I think that fingers just need some practice, the most important is imagination!
I whish I could have more time for crafting too!
p.s. I've noticed that somebody left a (silly) message in russian in the shoutbox!

Imagination!!! How fun and creative crafting is!
Thank you for letting me know about the Russian messages. I had no idea what those were, but thanks to you I just can ignore them. Sometimes Google translation doesn't make sense, you know. I sometimes receive comments in Russian, but I really can't tell what that means even if I use online translations. I try to reply in Russian using translation tool, but I doubt if that makes sense, either.
I understand English, Japanese, and very little of Spanish, that's it. :p (It's so cool of you to be able to understand many languages!)

For some things LOFT or HANDS have more, for others ABC does. But as for accessory parts and beads, I learned there are many shops in Asakusabashi, which I will find out soon and blog about. These days there are specialized accessory parts shop, for example…well I'll blog about this too ASAP.

Hi Kirin,
I will be visiting Japan in march/april and would be heading down to asakusabashi from tokyo. do you have any idea how to get there from tokyo and where do i exit from asakusabashi station? Thank you!

Refer to this map. http://www.bento.com/subtop5.html
Or you can Google "Tokyo metro map" and from the map you can see this.
At JR Tokyo station, take JR Yamanote line or Keihin Tohoku line to go to Akihabara, and then change to Sobu line.
There are many beads specialized shops around Asakusabashi station. You'd better ask which exit to out at the station, because both exits there are bead stores. Don't worry, it's not that far.

Sorry, I have no idea about other countries, I only know shops in Tokyo. How about Kinokuniya? In your country there are Kinokuniya and Isetan, right?
